In celebration of 40 years in business, Hirons announces the creation of an endowed scholarship at the IU Media School in honor of founder Tom Hirons (BA ’75).

“Indiana University provided me with excellent preparation for the advertising world, and I’m delighted to help other students discover the satisfaction of this field,” Hirons said.
The scholarship came as a surprise to Hirons, who learned of it at the agency’s anniversary party. The Tom Hirons Scholarship will support undergraduate and graduate Media School students interested in careers in branding and/or advertising.
Hirons earned his degree in political science but was drawn to advertising by industry legend Philip Ward Burton, who was on the faculty then. Hirons founded his agency in Bloomington right after graduation and later taught at IU Bloomington for more than 18 years, both in the School of Journalism and as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Telecommunications.
The Hirons agency has long provided internships to college students interested in advertising and public relations, many of them from IU. Internships are available year-round. Check out our current opportunities.
