¿CÓMO TE INTERESÓ EN LA INDUSTRIA?
I think I have always had a bit of a creative side to me—then add that to my desire to be a people pleaser—and that equals a career in client service with a marketing and communications firm.
WHAT PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE INDUSTRY?
I think a desire to learn is key to success in this industry. I’ve been doing this a long time but I always strive to learn something new with every project. My colleagues that surround me are all experts and there is always something to learn from their experiences and wisdom. Plus I try to share as many of my own experiences with my younger teammates whenever I can.
FUERA DE LA OFICINA, ¿CUÁLES SON ALGUNOS DE TUS HOBBIES O PASIONES?
I definitely like to tinker on small projects around my house plus I have general desire to grow things. I like to work in my yard and am always up to challenge my neighbors to a best lawn competition!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PROJECT THAT YOU’VE WORKED ON AT HIRONS?
I am fortunate to get to work on several campaigns that ultimately communicate life saving messages to Hoosiers across our state. I would have to say that the Covid 19 vaccine campaign we developed for the Indiana Department of Health was my most rewarding work. The vaccine represented a way forward for so many people and being able to deliver the messaging on the vaccine’s broad availability brought a sense of pride that still sticks with me to this day.
WHAT’S AN ACCOMPLISHMENT YOU’RE PROUD OF, PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY?
I am extremely proud of the success my three kids have been able to achieve in life. My twin daughters recently graduated from college and are both a few months into their professional careers as nurses. My son is also successful at his job in commercial real estate. So my wife and I are both extremely proud of the adults are kids have become—though I do miss those hectic days we survived with three toddlers running around the house!
¿CUÁL ES TU RESTAURANTE FAVORITO EN LA CIUDAD?
Admittedly I don’t eat out a lot—did I mentioned I just finished putting my three kids through college—but if we do dine out the La Hacienda near my house is always a favorite. And their margaritas and chicken soup are hard to beat!
DESCRÍBETE EN TRES PALABRAS.
Committed, caring, inquisitive
WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE VACATION?
My most memorable vacation is one that I repeat every summer. My family owns a small cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin. It is a week of relaxation, fishing, pontoon-riding, campfire-sitting and unwinding that I look forward to every July.
¿CUÁL ES TU HORA FAVORITA DEL DÍA?
I think my favorite time of day is when I finally arrive back home after a long day when I’m able to collapse into the Lazyboy, pop the foot rest up and turn on the evening news. This sounds like the answer a true “old guy” would give but what can I say, I cherish the simple things in life!
