WHAT PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE INDUSTRY?

An open-mindedness to new opportunities, a certain level of resiliency, and a consistent focus on getting better with each project.

OUTSIDE OF THE OFFICE, WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES OR PASSIONS?

As a former teacher, I love coaching and teaching. Currently I volunteer as a youth basketball coach at the YMCA. I’m a lifelong bookworm, and I try very hard to be a mediocre cook.

WHAT’S ONE IMPORTANT TIP YOU WOULD SHARE WITH ANYONE LOOKING TO GO INTO THE AGENCY WORLD?

You’re going to get out what you put in. If you buy into doing the best work you can for your clients and coworkers, and you treat people with kindness, everything will take care of itself.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF WORKING AT HIRONS?

I get to work with the most incredible, brilliant, and kind people every day. It’s a privilege for me to work alongside of them.

WHAT’S AN ACCOMPLISHMENT YOU’RE PROUD OF, PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY?

I previously taught at a credit recovery high school. Many of the students I taught had come from backgrounds littered with traumatic experiences. To help many of those students go from a freshman or sophomore credit level to graduating high school and pursuing college or careers they were proud of was the experience of a lifetime. I’m incredibly proud of that work.

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU DO EVERY DAY AND CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

When my father passed away a few years ago, my wife got me a journal where I could write messages to him. I try to make an entry every day.

DID YOU HAVE ANY UNUSUAL JOBS BEFORE WORKING AT HIRONS?

My first real job, I was about 15, I was a lumberjack at a Christmas tree farm.

My favorite book is Tuesdays with Morrie.
