¿CÓMO TE INTERESÓ EN LA INDUSTRIA?
My senior year of college, I had two internships in Indianapolis that were in marketing and communications. Specifically, I had a focus in social media, writing, events and some client work. Both experiences gave me confirmation that I was on the right path and provided direction for where I wanted to land after graduation. I secured my first full-time job in hospitality/events after graduating, where my focus was primarily on clients. My exposure to other industries and organizations within Indianapolis grew, and I was able to home in on what I wanted my next career step to be. That led me to Hirons.
¿CUÁL ES UNA CITA QUE TE DEFINE?
“What’s meant for you won’t pass you by”. There are several times in everyone’s lives when people wonder why situations, relationships, jobs, experiences, etc. don’t work out in their favor. They often stress about the why’s and what if’s or wonder how and why it didn’t turn out like they were hoping. I was that person for so long (and can still get swept back into the mindset), but it never did me any good. If you look at each scenario in the lens that things either are or are not meant for you, then it helps you keep your head up, and look toward the things that are meant to be yours.
FUERA DE LA OFICINA, ¿CUÁLES SON ALGUNOS DE TUS HOBBIES O PASIONES?
When I’m not at work, I’m kept busy by my mini golden doodle, Lola, and enjoy reading, binging any show but especially reality TV, and creating art (drawing, painting, digital, and/or clay).
¿CUÁNDO Y DÓNDE TIENES TUS MEJORES IDEAS?
When I lay down to go to bed at night, that’s likely the first time all day where I have peace and quiet, and time to listen to my thoughts. For this reason, all my best ideas come to me during this sometimes-inconvenient time.
¿CUÁL ES TU RESTAURANTE FAVORITO EN LA CIUDAD?
My two favorite foods are sushi and burgers, and Indy has a unique and delicious take on both. Moar Tea offers a sushi burrito that you can customize, and it is just as great as it sounds. On the other hand, Bru Burger has one of the most delicious impossible burgers I’ve found and the best garlic aioli for fries.
¿CUÁL FUE SU PRIMER TRABAJO?
I got my first job at a restaurant that I grew up going to – Puccinis. They’re a local pizza and pasta joint, known specifically for their buttermilk ranch dressing. I started out working behind the counter, answering phone calls, handling carry-out orders, and making salads. Once I was old enough, I moved to the front of the house where I worked as a server. I ended up working there for 7.5 years and left right before starting my first job post-college graduation.
WHAT’S AN ACCOMPLISHMENT YOU’RE PROUD OF, PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY?
One of the things I am most proud of myself for is taking a gap year-and-a-half. I unconventionally took this time halfway into my sophomore year of college when I learned that I had not a clue what I wanted to have a career in, and more importantly at the time, no idea what I should major in. The pressure of deciding was overwhelming and instead of wasting my time and money trying to figure it out, I made the choice to leave the school I was attending. I moved back home, got serious with researching career options and when the time was right, I re-enrolled as a Communication Studies major. Had I not taken this time to focus on myself and my future, I’m not sure I would be where I am today and am grateful I listened to myself in making the touch decision.
¿TIENES UNA PELÍCULA O UN LIBRO FAVORITO?
There’s nothing better than a classic, and I have yet to find a movie I love more than The Breakfast Club.
WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOLS OF THE TRADE?
Patience and a desire to learn. These two things go together and are crucial in this industry. You need patience not only with yourself, but with your co-workers and the work that you are doing. And because things develop quickly, learning never stops, so it’s something you need to enjoy.
