¿CÓMO TE INTERESÓ EN LA INDUSTRIA?

As excruciatingly painful as it is to admit, Mad Men generated my intital interest in marketing. There are 1,000 things wrong about the marketing industry explored within Mad Men, but the successful pitch meetings were a work of art. Creating an innovative, effective campaign to promote a great product or company never becomes boring.

HOW DID YOU BREAK INTO THE INDUSTRY AND LAND YOUR FIRST JOB?

After graduating from Ball State, I landed a job at ABC57 in South Bend. I knew almost nothing about TV advertising sales and news stations, but I had a great understanding of how to utilize digital media in ways that the more experienced TV marketers were unfamiliar with.

FUERA DE LA OFICINA, ¿CUÁLES SON ALGUNOS DE TUS HOBBIES O PASIONES?

When I’m not in the office I love to read, watch sports, and spend time outdoors with my wife, Marisa, and my two dogs.

WHAT’S ONE IMPORTANT TIP YOU WOULD SHARE WITH ANYONE LOOKING TO GO INTO THE AGENCY WORLD?

While marketing agencies can all fall under the same broad umbrella, they are not all built the same. Whether it be work style, office structure, creative vision, or clientele, finding the right fit for your personal style can make a huge difference in your energy and quality of your work.

¿CUÁL ES TU HORA FAVORITA DEL DÍA?

I love the morning on the weekends. I’m not an especially early-riser, but getting out of the house for a walk or to grab coffee by 8 or 9 in the morning on a sunny day provides a guaranteed mood boost for the rest of the day.

DID YOU HAVE ANY UNUSUAL JOBS BEFORE WORKING AT HIRONS?

Before UberEats and DoorDash were widely available everywhere, I worked for a local version while at Ball State called Tranzind Delivery. I called in every order, dealt with the outdated restaurant menus on the app, and dropped off meals to places in Muncie that I never knew existed.

¿CUÁL FUE SU PRIMER TRABAJO?

My first job I ever had was working with my dad. Besides being a teacher, he had a side business doing concrete work. From spring until late fall, I spent many evenings after school and mornings during the summer riding with him to wherever the job was and hating, with prejudice, the site of Quikrete.

¿CUÁL ES TU RESTAURANTE FAVORITO EN LA CIUDAD?

Maialina. It is located in the heart of our neighborhood and has been a regular date night location for my wife and I. We even chose to use the restaurant as a venue for our wedding lunch.

WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE VACATION?

It was not the best, but my most memorable vacation is going to Virginia Beach. My wife and I had just graduated from Ball State and neither of us had an extra dollar to our name. We found the best hotel we could get on the coast with unused timeshare points from a family member and got into the car to drive. I remember the meals we had, the book I read, the conditions on the beach, everything. It was a vacation funded by couch-cushion pennies and pocket lint, but we made the best of it.

¿TIENES UNA PELÍCULA O UN LIBRO FAVORITO?

John Green’s The Anthropocene Reviewed is a book that has stuck with me since I read it. It was released around the time I moved to Indianapolis and I felt that many of the themes in the book were timely for events in my life.
