As the party responsible for generating awareness about voter registration and upcoming elections, the Office of the Indiana Secretary of State needed to reach residents from all walks of life at the height of the 2016 election season, when various candidates and organizations were all competing for attention.
With guidance from the Secretary of State’s office, Hirons placed emphasis on reaching veterans, minority populations and women, all of whom have low voter turnout historically. To cut through the noise of other political advertisements, Hirons concentrated the campaign’s impact by running ads in phases running up to both the primary and general elections.
Hirons created a 30-second animated television spot following the same creative theme as the rest of the campaign and saturated major markets across the state.
With the intention of grabbing listeners’ attention and quickly conveying the importance of voting, radio ads used strong personification. The campaign ran on stations in all corners of the state.
Digital advertising was well-suited to the campaign because of its ability to refine audience targeting to reach a specific population. Hirons ran ads on various social media, video and search channels that focused on educating the public about voter registration, polling locations and other essential information, monitoring each platform to determine which performed best.
Print ads were developed in both English and Spanish and featured simple but compelling creative that urged residents to vote. The ads ran in a variety of statewide news publications.
