Amos Brown Internship

Job Description

The Amos Brown Internship, offered every summer, encourages minority students to seek careers in communications and supports minority recruitment efforts, both for Hirons and for companies throughout Indiana.

Amos Brown (1950-2015) hosted “Afternoons with Amos” on WTLC and wrote the “Just Tellin’ It” column in the Indianapolis Recorder. In 2007, Brown was inducted into the Indiana Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame and was a two-time winner of the IBA Spectrum Award. Active in Indianapolis civic affairs, Brown was a board member of the Indianapolis Urban League, Indianapolis United Way, Community Action Against Poverty and Indiana Black Expo. Brown worked with Hirons in 2010 as co-chair of the Indianapolis Census Complete Count Committee to promote census participation among residents.

To be considered, applicants must be a current junior, senior, master’s student or recent graduate in good academic standing, with priority given to minority students. Once finished with the program, interns will act as ambassadors for the program and serve as mentors to future Amos Brown interns.

The intern will be selected by a panel of judges, including Oveda Brown, sister of Amos Brown; Deon Levingston, Radio One regional vice president and market manager; Shannon Williams, president of Indianapolis Recorder; and Rose Durbin, Hirons vice president and media director.
