Hirons, an advertising, public relations and digital agency with offices in Indianapolis and Chicago, celebrates its annual Founder’s Day tradition today to mark 42 years in business. Tom Hirons, the company’s founder, opened the agency’s doors in 1978.

Since last year, Hirons has seen tremendous growth. In 2019, Hirons opened an office in Chicago and was designated a preferred vendor for marketing, advertising, communications and media buying services as part of the State of Indiana’s Quantity Purchase Agreement. This partnership expanded the firm’s already deep relationships with state government agencies. In addition, the agency has extended its partnerships with many long-standing commercial clients, providing strategic counsel to many local organizations as the COVID-19 pandemic forced communications to shift.

“In the past year, the need for full-service communications and marketing services continues to grow, and we’ve seen significant interest in our crisis communications expertise,” said Hirons CEO Jim Parham.

In light of safety concerns regarding the global pandemic, Hirons is observing Founder’s Day differently this year. Instead of a day of staff engagement and celebration, Hirons is commemorating it by offering employee-owners a paid day off to practice self-care or to volunteer to move our community forward.

“It feels strange to celebrate when there is so much else going on in our community – and nationally. We hope our employee-owners will enjoy some well-deserved time off to attend to their needs or the needs of our community,” said Hirons COO Deana Haworth.

Last year’s inaugural Founder’s Day celebration provided a communications and event planning opportunity for the agency’s Amos Brown intern, Tom Hirons IU Media School intern and those in the Communications Management department. Hirons launched the Amos Brown internship program in 2018 in honor of the legendary broadcaster and community activist and to encourage minority students to seek careers in communications. To further support minority recruitment efforts, both for Hirons and for companies throughout Indiana, Hirons is updating its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy.

Tom Hirons first opened the agency in Bloomington, pioneering an integrated approach to advertising and public relations, and led the agency to a leadership position in digital communications. He moved the company to Indianapolis in 2012 and oversaw its transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
