IN Agency Life
We are pleased to have Sunny King, a former Hirons intern, on our team as a business development coordinator. Get to know Sunny:
How did you become interested in the industry?
As someone who has always worn many different hats, I found that this industry was a way I could learn about and interact with a variety of fields while improving my communications skills. I am passionate about education and I’m dedicated to being a lifelong learner – in this field I will always be learning.
How did you land your first job?
Being the business development coordinator at Hirons is my first full-time job, and it took a lot of hard work to get here. I had six internships in my undergraduate years, some were unpaid. Many of these I did in addition to working three other jobs and taking a full course load. (I often wonder why my hair is going gray so quickly at 22, then I remember that!) I had an internship with Hirons and was blessed with the opportunity to stay.
What personal characteristics do you need to be successful in the industry?
I’ve found that continuously trying to learn, being accountable, being kind and willing to work collaboratively with your team are keys to success.
Outside of the office, what are some of your hobbies or passions?
You’ll catch me writing poetry, reading, working on music, hanging out with my dogs and family, or, in a non-pandemic world, traveling.
When and where do you have your best ideas?
My car is my sanctuary. I get all my best ideas when I’m traveling by myself and driving for long periods of time.
What’s one important tip you would share with anyone looking to go into the agency world?
You have to be resilient and adaptable. You will make mistakes, but you have to be committed to doing your best.
What’s an accomplishment you’re proud of, personally or professionally?
My proudest accomplishment would be creating a color guard program from scratch at Eastern Greene Schools. I love being able to mentor and share my passion with my students. It is truly a magical feeling to watch your students grow and begin creating for themselves. It makes my heart happy to see them become just as passionate about it as I am!
What’s one quote that defines you?
“Though she be but little, she is fierce.” – Shakespeare
Do you have a favorite movie or book?
I love “Milk and Honey” by Rupi Kaur. While it may be a cliché poetry book to some, it has helped me through many different situations in life.
What’s your favorite part of working at Hirons?
The team I work with. They are some of the best in the industry and it’s an honor to be able to learn from mentors like them. They are unafraid to go the extra mile and unafraid to work hard to provide the best quality work possible.
