\"\"The saying goes, \u201cIn 49 states, it’s just basketball … but this is Indiana.” From April 3-6, Indianapolis once again stepped into the national spotlight to host the biggest celebration in all of college basketball: the 2026 NCAA\u00a0Men\u2019s Final Four. Our city welcomed upwards of 70,000 fans for a weekend unlike any other, featuring fan events, tailgates, arts and culture programming, and free concerts on American Legion Mall, all leading to the iconic showdown between college\u2019s best teams at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indy also made history as host to the NCAA DI, DII, DIII and NIT championships all in the same weekend, never before seen in our city.<\/p>

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of local volunteers and leaders, including Hirons Account Manager, Public Relations Max Wing<\/a> who proudly served on the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2026 NCAA Men\u2019s Final Four. Dedicated committee members, guided with leadership and oversight from Indiana Sports Corp, helped bring the college basketball experience to life for residents and visitors while creating a positive impact on the local community. We are proud to shine a spotlight on Max and the role he played in building excitement and anticipation for the event.<\/p>

His decision to serve on the LOC was a no brainer, being a huge sports fan, proud Hoosier and downtown Indianapolis resident. As a member of the Public Relations and Communications Subcommittee within the LOC, Max crafted compelling narratives to promote the events taking place throughout the city. With his background in media and digital marketing strategies, involvement in the tourism and events space, and experience developing dynamic stories through strategic public relations initiatives for our clients, Max played an invaluable role in the success of the LOC\u2019s various initiatives.<\/p>

\u201cHaving worked closely with Max, I\u2019ve seen firsthand the passion and pride he brings to everything he does\u2014especially when it comes to Indianapolis,” said Ashleigh Newbold, Vice President of Engagement at Indiana Sports Corp. “He brought incredible energy, creativity and strategic thinking to the Local Organizing Committee, helping tell the story of Final Four weekend in a way that truly captured the spirit of our city. I\u2019m so proud of the impact he made and the way he showed up for our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Of note, Max directly supported the SWISH initiative, which highlighted Indy\u2019s beautiful arts and culture scene. Indy Arts Council and Indiana Sports Corp, in partnership with Forty5, GANGGANG, Epicurean Indy and the LOC, provided paid opportunities for more than 100 local artists, performers and chefs and offered a curated experience for Indianapolis residents and visitors to experience arts activities and local talent. Free and family-friendly, the festival included live music and performances, new Sidewalk Galleries murals, an Epicurean Market and food festival, a student poster competition, walk and talk tours, and more. Beyond his efforts to promote SWISH\u00a02026, Max was able to give back to the community he calls home through supporting the Men\u2019s Final Four Legacy Project. The Legacy Project is a community impact initiative designed to ensure the excitement of Final Four weekend leaves a lasting, meaningful benefit in the host city that serves residents long after the final buzzer sounds.<\/p>

This year\u2019s Legacy Project transformed Christian Park Family Center in Indianapolis through a newly refinished basketball court with fresh paint, updated graphics and sport lines. Additional upgrades included new wall and backboard padding, basketball rims, ball racks and basketballs. Beyond the court itself, the facility received a new coat of paint throughout, a refinished floor in the auxiliary meeting room and various other improvements across the center. Ultimately, these updates ensure the institution can continue to bring together friends, families\u00a0and athletes for exercise, camaraderie and creative expression for years to come.\u00a0Learn more about the Legacy Project<\/a>.<\/p>

At the one-year mark of serving on the committee, it was an extremely proud moment for Max to see all his efforts come to fruition during the championship weekend in Indianapolis.<\/p>

recognizes 100 of Central Indiana\u2019s most outstanding young professionals across 10 different industries, honoring professional achievement, civic engagement, character and leadership. Leigh-Ann is a finalist in the media, entertainment and sports category, representing the impact she makes at Hirons and within our community.<\/p>\n<p>Since joining the agency in 2015, Leigh-Ann has played a pivotal role in shaping Hirons\u2019 identity and driving our operational excellence. and broadcast journalism experience to the agency. As part of the Hirons\u2019 director team, Smith will oversee planning and strategy for public relations accounts, including specialized services such as crisis communication, succession planning and social media monitoring.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBrandon\u2019s perspective from being in front of the camera will bring unique insights and innovative solutions for our client\u2019s public relations strategies. He is a charismatic leader with a thirst for continual learning and a similar eagerness for sharing his expansive expertise,\u201d shares Jay Schemanske, executive vice president at Hirons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to joining Hirons, Smith held reporting roles in Plano, IL, and Columbia, MO, before serving as Statehouse Bureau Chief for Indiana Public Broadcasting (IPBS) in Indianapolis. The award honors alumni who have achieved significant recognition or accomplishments in their professional field, community service or contributions to the university.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since joining Hirons in 2015, Leigh-Ann has held a range of administrative, operational and client-facing roles, each defined by her purpose-driven leadership and people-first approach. But here at Hirons, October marks something even more special \u2014 <strong>National Employee Ownership Month<\/strong>.<\/p><p>A 2021 study by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nceo.org\/research\/research-findings-on-employee-ownership#:~:text=This%202020%20study%20found%20that,Download%20the%20report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Center for Employee Ownership<\/a> (NCEO) found that ESOP participants have about twice the value in their ESOP accounts as their counterparts have in their 401(k) accounts. Furthermore, nearly 100% of the total contributions to ESOP accounts came from the employer compared to only about 31% for 401(k) accounts.<\/p><p>When founder Tom Hirons set out to transition Hirons to an\u00a0<a href=\"\/es\/who-we-are\/esop\/\">employee stock ownership plan (ESOP)<\/a>, it wasn\u2019t simply a financial decision. It was a way to make sure the company\u2019s future belonged to all employee-owners.<\/p><p>In 2010, Tom sold 30% of his ownership shares to establish our ESOP, and by 2018, Hirons was 100% employee-owned.<\/p><p>For our employee-owners, ownership isn\u2019t just about shares or numbers. Earlier this year, Deana presented at NCEO\u2019s EO Month\u00a0Community Conversation and at TEA\u2019s Great Lakes\u2019 Regional Conference.<\/p><p>\u201cHirons\u00a0began in 1978 as a small, founder-led team, and we\u2019ve managed to keep that small-business spirit through all the changes the firm has seen over nearly 50 years. Focused on actionable insights, the panel explored how AI can be used by businesses to solve real challenges, increase efficiency and drive growth. Attendees gained practical tips for leveraging AI in their business strategies.<\/p><p>The event was organized by the Great Lakes Women\u2019s Business Council, a leading nonprofit dedicated to supporting women-owned businesses. They represent over 1,500 Women\u2019s Business Enterprise National Council women\u2019s business enterprises and provide access to capital, corporate procurement opportunities, certification for women-owned business enterprises and small business educational support. With a mission to connect, empower and advocate for business owners, Great Lakes WBC created the event to address one of today\u2019s most urgent topics for business owners: AI.<\/p><p>According to the Indiana Marketing and AI Survey sent to attendees, most respondents had little to no formal AI training despite more than half using some form of AI on a weekly if not daily basis. The top concerns highlighted were security risks and potential for inaccuracies, followed closely by a lack of time to learn and implement AI tools. In response, Hirons and the Great Lakes WBC aimed to provide business owners with valuable opportunities to better understand and integrate AI into their operations.<\/p><p>At the event, the panel featured several industry leaders, including Sheila Smiley, Hirons executive vice president, who moderated the panel. Sheila is a skilled marketer with more than two decades of experience leading strategic marketing campaigns for organizations of all sizes spanning the globe. As a strategic consultant, she specializes in business analytics using consumer behavior insights and emerging technology to direct advertising and marketing strategy and implementation. Sheila brought a grounded perspective to the conversation, drawing from her experience helping clients navigate the constantly evolving digital landscape.<\/p><p>A key takeaway from the panel was the importance of starting small and being intentional. Business owners were encouraged to experiment with low-risk tools already embedded in everyday platforms like Microsoft or Google. These platforms often include simple AI functions like drafting emails or summarizing notes which, for users, can soften the transition into AI without overwhelming them.\u00a0<\/p><p>The panel also emphasized AI should support, not replace, human insight. While AI can help speed up tasks like writing or data analysis, human judgement is still critical for quality control and ethical decision-making. Business owners were advised to always review AI-generated content before using it internally or externally. This helps maintain authenticity and ensures the final product aligns with brand standards and business goals.<\/p><p>Finally, the conversation touched on the importance of using AI responsibly. Business owners were reminded to be cautious about what information they feed into AI systems and to understand the terms of any platform before use. It\u2019s recommended to stay away from inputting any sensitive client or company data and information to help create trust with clients and reduce the risk of misinformation or data leaks.<\/p><p>One example that stood out during the discussion was how AI is being used for internal productivity. It was shared that some panel members\u2019 teams use tools like Outlook\u2019s email assistant and Google Doc\u2019s smart summaries to draft communications and capture key meeting takeaways quickly. In another instance, AI was used to help structure a client presentation by turning a rough outline into a more polished format which the team could then refine. functions, Havener brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role. She joined Hirons in July 2019 and has worked in operations, project management, and writing and editing capacities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHolly has been instrumental in the operations of Hirons for more than five years and is a valued and trusted member of the team,\u201d said Leigh-Ann Richardville, vice president of operations at Hirons. \u201cShe works behind the scenes, ensuring the agency runs smoothly while improving and enhancing our internal processes. She has a keen eye for detail and recently stepped up to provide quality control support across the agency. Holly is someone everyone can turn to with questions, and her commitment to excellence is only outmatched by her positive and kind spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Havener earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in English from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. While there, she was able to hone her writing and editing skills, which she puts to good use at Hirons.
